Bringing Science Content from CSIRO Publishing to Wider Audiences

Universal Media Co are working in collaboration with CSIRO Publishing to bring quality science content to a broader Australian audience. CSIRO Publishing content will be repackaged and brought to wider audiences via Universal’s direct mail operation, as well as mass market retail networks, including news agencies and supermarkets.

Initial publications will focus on the topic of gardening, with a huge interest in food and gardening emerging during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, we see this trend continuing, with an expansion of interest to general eco-gardening or re-wilding, and integration of productive spaces with outdoor living spaces.

“Australians have developed a greater interest in scientific sources during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are pleased to be exploring new ways to satisfy that need,” said Universal Media Co Publisher Janice Williams. “The CSIRO Publishing content library is deep and well-regarded, so we believe that repackaging it in popular and easy-to-consume formats will bring it to a whole new audience”.

The first title under this arrangement will be published in March 2022, titled “Creating Your Own Eco-friendly Garden”. This title looks at how the humble back yard, with productive and decorative plants, can contribute to native biodiversity, attracting a range of fauna that will delight and entertain the whole family.
